Despite his many impressive feats, Alex previously joked that his kids could care less.

“They weren’t really watching. They didn’t care,” he told E! News earlier this month. “I don’t think they even know what climbing is, necessarily. It’s just normal. They have no idea what I do.”

And though Alex would like for his kids to embrace the outdoors, he doesn’t necessarily want them to follow in his footsteps.

“I’m not going to encourage my kids to do that,” he shared, “but I totally understand if my kids go from hiking to easy scrambling to very easy free soloing—once they feel capable and ready and they can manage the risk themselves. It’s all part of a spectrum.”

“My goal as a parent is to enable them [and] give them the tools for success,” he explained. “I want them to feel comfortable, be unafraid in the mountains, be unafraid in life, feel comfortable doing whatever they want to do. So, if they’re interested in that, if they’re drawn to that, then power to them. They can make good decisions.”

While Alex’s kids may not follow in his path, many other professional athletes have had kids who have taken after them. Keep reading for more children of star athletes.
