A woman accused of fatally shooting a woman and wounding another in Missouri nearly six years ago was arrested in Florida this week, one day after she was placed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, authorities said.

KaShawn Nicola Roper was placed on the most-wanted list Tuesday, and a reward of up to $1 million was offered for information, the agency announced that day.

She was arrested the next day in High Springs, around 20 miles northwest of Gainesville, by authorities acting on a tip from the announcement, the FBI said in a statement Wednesday.

Roper is accused of killing a woman and wounding another when she fired into a car during an altercation in Kansas City, Missouri, in August 2020, authorities said.

She was charged on state counts of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, and in 2021 she was charged on a federal warrant with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, Kansas City police said.

Kansas City police responded around 3:35 a.m. on Aug. 23, 2020, to a hospital where two women who had been shot arrived in a private vehicle, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said at a news conference Wednesday.

Jazmyn Henrion, 23, was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the other woman had injuries that were not life-threatening, Graves said.

Roper was identified as the suspect, and she was charged 18 days later, on Sept. 10, Graves said.

Police learned that Roper “quickly fled the Kansas City area immediately after the incident,” Graves said, but investigators continued to seek her arrest.

“We have never forgotten,” Graves said at Wednesday’s news conference, which announced Roper’s placement on the FBI’s most-wanted list.

Alachua County, Florida, online jail records showed that Roper was being held without bond Thursday.

A voicemail was left with a Kansas City attorney listed as representing Roper in court records Thursday evening, but there was no immediate response.
