Why DWTS Judge Carrie Ann Inaba Got Booed During Season 33 Finale

Carrie Ann Inaba earned zero points for this controversial take.

Just before Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson were crowned the season 33 winners of Dancing With the Stars, the judge shared her honest opinion about the duo’s final performance—earning backlash from the audience.

In a clip shared to X, Inaba told the competitors that their dance—a freestyle tennis-themed routine to Jamiroquai’s “Canned Heat”—at the Nov. 26 finale was “underwhelming.”

As she noted among enthusiastic boos from the audience, “I was expecting something, and a freestyle can make or break somebody.”

The general audience wasn’t the only group not pleased with Inaba’s take. After all, Derek Hough wore a shocked expression as Inaba delivered her critique. Meanwhile, Graziadei kept it cool by curling his lip into a frown and nodding as he turned to look over at Johnson.

Graziadei’s inner circle had his back, as his fiancé Kelsey Anderson—who won his season of The Bachelor—not only booed upon hearing Inaba’s review, but also gave the camera a thumbs down.
