Frankel colt Paratrooper headlines today’s offering on debut at Wolverhampton, going to post alongside Dubawi colt Alpine Trail in the West Midlands opener – live on Sky Sports Racing…

4.27 Wolverhampton – Frankel colt Paratrooper headlines

The opener at Wolverhampton is sure to deliver a cracking contest, with three making their debuts.

Son of Dubawi, Alpine Trail will be ridden by ex-Godolphin number two, James Doyle and will be hoping he can get this two-year-old off to a winning start in this Win £1M With BetMGM’s Golden Goals Novice Stakes.

George Boughey operates at a 29% strike rate for Shadwell, and he saddles Mohaather gelding, Motawaared for them. He is another who will be looking to make it a winning debut with Billy Loughnane in the saddle.

However, eyes will be drawn to the Frankel colt Paratrooper who is a half-brother to 1000 Guineas runner-up, Cloak Of Spirits. Karl Burke will be hopeful that he has a nice one on his hands and he gets the vote here.

3.50 Southwell – Olly Murphy’s Bobby Socks and Bread And Butter feature

Sean Bowen gets the leg up on dual-winner Bobby Socks who found the 1m7½f too sharp at Leicester last time. He was a course and distance winner in 2023 and will be hard to beat back in this Golf And Gallop Package Handicap Hurdle over a trip he favours.

Bread And Butter is Olly Murphy’s other runner and he was denied the four-timer at Taunton recently but could bounce back to form under usual pilot Lewis Saunders who takes off a handy 7lbs.

Fergal O’Brien’s Whatsyourproblem and Shared complete the shortlist.

6.30 Wolverhampton – Buraback seeks the course and distance hat-trick

Buraback kept on well last time to win under a 5lb penalty and is a rapid improver having gone up 10lbs for his double course and distance wins and is fancied to land the hat-trick for trainer Derek Shaw in this Extra Winnings With BetUK Acca Club Handicap.

David Evans’ Level Up finished second at Southwell recently and is now 6lb below his last winning mark and could go one better under Rossa Ryan.

Last-time-out runners-up Gustav Graves and Wedgewood are others that could get back to winning ways, whilst course and distance winner Rosenpur could also enter calculations for Jennie Candlish.

Best of the rest

Ideallko looks the one to beat in the Watch Unbridled On attheraces.com Handicap Chase at Southwell (1.10pm), chasing the hat-trick after two hard-fought victories at Warwick recently.

Jongleur d’Etoiles dons the JP McManus silks in the Play At The Races Stableduel Handicap Hurdle at the same venue (4.20pm), and should go well with Richie McLernon in the plate. Just Chasing May carries top weight here having not finished outside the placings since falling at Ffos Las in May 2024.

At Wolverhampton, Kaleidoscope Eyes looks to follow up on course and distance success in the BetMGM: It’s Showtime Handicap (5.00pm) but will have to fend off Arlecchino’s Rex who showed promise when second at Kempton the last day.

High Court Judge has been a revelation in recent weeks and looks well-placed to land the four-timer in the BetUK: It’s Where The UK Bets Handicap at 7.30pm, having recently broken a nine-race duck at the West Midlands track.
