Nursing homes want real happy hour via law change

Some Minnesota seniors are advocating for a law change that would allow them to have real happy hours at nursing homes and other facilities, reports Session Daily. State law currently bars alcohol from being served in nursing homes.

Those swept up during the immigration enforcement action in the Twin Cities included people in caregiving roles at group homes and nursing homes. The Minnesota Star Tribune humanizes that impact with this story about a Russian immigrant whose husband is in detention.

An immigration judge has denied an asylum claim from the family of Liam Conejo Ramos, the 5-year-old boy swept up by ICE whose image in a bunny hat made national news, reports KARE 11. Their lawyer is appealing, but the family could be deported to Ecuador.

A Feeding our Future-related trial is set for April after Gandi Abdi Kediye, who’s also known as Gandi Yusuf Mohamed, rejected a plea deal on Wednesday, reports MPR News. Kediye is among 79 people charged in the $300 million fraud case.
