Consider attending a seed workshop at the Brea Library or an open sewing workshop at the San Clemente Library this Saturday.

For those interested in early OC history,consider visiting Founders’ Park in Anaheim this weekend.

These are just a handful of the many free events and activities happening throughout Orange County – funded by public tax dollars.

Here are a few noteworthy free events happening this weekend. 

North Orange County

Founders’ Park Open House

Learn about the history of the City of Anaheim during a visit to Founders’ Park, where Orange County’s oldest museum is located. The museum, known as the Mother Colony House, was home to “the father of Anaheim” and one of the first homes constructed during the city’s founding in 1857.

When: April 4, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Seed Workshop

Learn how and when to plant seeds available in the Brea seed library during a demo with a UC Master Gardener. They will explain the best soil to plant them in, and participants will start their own seeds to take home.  

This program is intended for ages 8 and up.

Bilingual Storytime

Take your children to a storytime in Spanish and English at the Los Alamitos-Rossmoor Library.

Coastal Orange County

Sewing Class

Attend an open sewing workshop at the San Clemente Library. Attendees may create a monthly project selected by the library or bring their own projects.

No experience with sewing is necessary. All supplies provided for the library’s monthly project.

Registration is required. Call the library or visit the service desk to sign up.

Poetry Contest

Submit a poem to the 28th Annual John Gardiner Community Poetry Contest through the Laguna Beach Library.

The poem must be no more than 25 lines of text with a limit of 230 words, speaking to the contest’s theme is “Unexpected Encounters.”

Poems may be submitted within the body of an email to Laguna Beach Library at ocpl.lagunabeach@occr.ocgov.com. In your email, include your name, phone number and category — grade level or “Adult.” 

Entries are accepted from April 1-30. Prizes up to $150 in gift certificates will be awarded across five age groups.

South Orange County

Mesa Loop Exploration Day

Enjoy panoramic views of Black Star Canyon, Limestone Canyon and the Cleveland National Forest during an exploration day at Mesa Loop, a 2.5-mile trail extending behind the Library of the Canyons through an oak woodland grove.

Stop in to the library for a craft and free seed packets.

Wilderness Access Day

Explore Limestone Canyon on a wilderness access day.  Trails vary in distance and difficulty level, with choices ranging from one-hour walks to 15-mile cardio treks. 

Preregistration is required.

Talk on Stress

Check out a book on reducing stress and join a discussion group on the topic at the Cypress Library. Attendees will make scented beads to use in mindful breathing exercises.

The program is intended for adults age 18 and older.

Dungeons and Dragons

Teenagers grades 6-12 are welcome to the Orange Public Library to play Dungeons & Dragons, a tabletop roleplaying game.
