Jason Isaacs & Parker Posey Explain Odd Southern Accents

Jason Isaacs has checked into The White Lotus.

The Harry Potter alum, who appears opposite Parker Posey on the third season of the HBO series, recently explained the accent work he used to channel Southern businessman Timothy Ratliff.

“I had to do Durham, N.C., which is very specific,” the Englishman said in a Feb. 15 TikTok video shared by the streamer. “It sounds a lot like the other Southern accents, but it’s got two vowels in it that sound like upper class English. So, it is weird because nobody listening is used to it, only the people who live locally.”

The 61-year-old added, “I love an accent. I’ve had dozens of my own accents in life. I start with the voice always.”

As for how Posey made her choice when it came to Victoria Ratliff’s drawl? The Southern native drew from her roots.

“I wanted to bring like a snotty affect,” she told Variety in an interview published Feb. 17. “I’ve met some really wealthy people and Southerners that are almost affected so that’s what I did.”
