Jacob Elordi was feeling less than euphoric about these reactions.

Following the release of 2023’s Saltburn, many viewers expressed their shock at the scene where Barry Keoghan’s character sips Jacob’s leftover bathtub water. But as Jacob himself explained, he thought the response gave a look into society’s views today.

“I actually think it shows me just how prudish we are,” the 28-year-old shared on the Nov. 6 episode of Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast. “Because when I watch that, I just think there’s far more extreme things in cinema that I’ve seen, far more graphic.”

The Frankenstein star also compared the scene to what is readily available to watch, adding, “There’s more alarming things in the top 10 streamed remakes of crime documentaries on every streaming platform.”

“I think that’s much more alarming,” Jacob continued, “the kind of horrible joy that we all get from watching children be mutilated. That’s what was interesting to me.”
