The 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M. Yaghi “for the development of metal–organic frameworks.” Their research provided insights into the creation of new materials that store large amounts of gas in a tiny volume, like “Hermione Granger’s handbag in Harry Potter”.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the winners at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, on Wednesday (Oct. 8). This is the 117th Nobel chemistry prize and comes with a cash prize of 11 million Swedish kronor ($1.2 million).

This is a breaking story. We’ll update this page with more information shortly.
