And while things didn’t work out with Jolie, Thornton—who shares daughter Amanda, 46, with ex Melissa Lee Gatlin, sons William, 32, and Harry, 30, with ex-wife Pietra Dawn Cherniak, as well as daughter Bella, 20, with wife of 12 years Connie Angland—joked that he told people, “At least I was trying.”
As for Jolie, the Eternals actress has echoed Thornton’s statements about their relationship and how much they still care about each other.
“I still love him dearly and think the world of him,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2008, “and I’m proud to have been his wife for a time.”
She added, “I don’t believe in regrets. It’s a dangerous habit to get into—it makes you pause in your life if you start thinking back and questioning yourself.”
