Bill Pullman, Lewis Pullman Father-Son Moment on Stage

Sometimes the sequel matches up to the original.

In the case of Bill Pullman and Lewis Pullman, the father-son duo had some fun while presenting the award for Best Editing at the 2026 Oscars, hosted by Conan O’Brien at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood March 15.

As the pair took the stage to present, Lewis, 33, joked about how a film editor’s role of shaping a film was similar to the influence the Independence Day actor had on his own career.

“But I didn’t really shape anything,” Bill told his son. “I stayed behind the scenes.”

The 72-year-old also quipped, “I did think that there would be a place for you in livestock management. That didn’t really work out.”

Lewis agreed with the Spaceballs alum, too.

“Yeah, big disappointment there,” the 33-year-old added, before taking a more sentimental turn. “We’re lucky. Turns out audiences don’t always mind the sequel.”

Recognizing the analogy, Bill—also dad to Maesa, 38, Jack, 37, with wife Tamara Hurwitz—continued, “I hope that they like the sequel even more than the original.”
