Luke Littler has told Sky Sports he “has the ability” to break Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor’s astonishing World Darts Championship titles record of 16.

Littler became the youngest world champion with a 7-3 thrashing of Michael van Gerwen in the final at Alexandra Palace on Friday.

The 17-year-old has been on a meteoric rise since his sensational run to the final of the Worlds last year and capped off picking up 10 titles in his maiden year on the professional circuit by claiming the biggest prize of all at the second time of asking.

Asked what was next for him by Sky Sports News the day after the final, the teenager name-checked Taylor and his total – 11 world titles more than any other player in history – as one he has the potential to break.

“Deep down, if I want to try and break the record of Phil Taylor’s then I’m sure I’ve got the ability to,” Littler said.

“If I want it, I’m sure I’ll do it.

“I just need to keep going. The calendar is stacked all year round.

“I’ve said in previous interviews, if I win every major title in my career I’ll be happy, but obviously I’d like to add on to the world titles.

Luke Littler finds 124 on the bullseye in the seventh set of his World Darts Championship final against Michael van Gerwen

“In the family section when we come off for the break, just to see so many mums, dads, kids with my tops on throughout the tournament was really good to see.

“It’s been a long three weeks here in London, I can’t wait to go home, chill out, obviously not block myself away from everyone, but just be with the family and message my friends. And obviously I love my Xbox, so I’ll see who’s online.

“Just get back to normal, and don’t make anyone change what I do.”

Littler: Beckham text me after victory | I’ll bring World Championship trophy to Old Trafford if they get in contact

With his historic win, Littler has smashed the record for the youngest winner, which was previously held by his opponent Van Gerwen when he won the Worlds back in 2014 against Peter Wright aged 24.

A big Manchester United supporter, Littler also revealed he had heard from one of the club’s legends in David Beckham in the aftermath of his success at Alexandra Palace, adding he would parade the trophy at Old Trafford if invited.

“To see the likes of David Beckham watching it, feels crazy,” the 17-year-old said.

“He said: ‘Wow, well done,’ and I said: ‘Thank you’.

Michael van Gerwen praises ‘star’ Luke Littler after his defeat to the 17-year-old in the World Darts Championship

“It just goes to show how well I’ve done for the sport. Not only for myself, but the other hundreds of professionals out there.

“Picking up the first title, if I end 2025 with nothing, at least I’ve picked up the big one right at the beginning.

“Maybe (bring trophy to Old Trafford). I’m just glad I did beat Stephen [Bunting] because I’m sure he would have been at Anfield [on Sunday for Liverpool vs Manchester United, live on Sky Sports], without a doubt.

“If they [Manchester United] get in contact, I’ll take the opportunity to take the trophy to Old Trafford.”
