Tom McKibbin won on his LIV Golf debut as part of Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team that were victorious in the season-opener in Riyadh.

The quartet of Rahm (67), Tyrrell Hatton (70), Caleb Surratt (71) and McKibbin (72) finished in 50 under over the three days, 11 shots clear of the next best team, Ripper GC, with the scores of all four players counting.

McKibbin, dubbed the ‘next Rory McIlroy’ having hailed from the same Holywood Golf Club as the four-time major champion, was one of the highest-profile golfers to make the switch to LIV over the winter having only recently earned his PGA Tour card.

Adrian Meronk won the individual event by two shots from Rahm as he shot one-under 71 in the final round on Saturday and went wire-to-wire.

It was Meronk’s maiden LIV victory and his first in professional golf since the 2022 Irish Open on the DP World Tour.

“With golf, you never know when you get a good form and perform, and that’s what happened for me this week, so I’m super happy that it happened in the first tournament,” said Meronk.

“I will continue to work on my game, and hopefully I can bring more trophies.”
