Kansas State QB Avery Johnson’s father and brother issue apology after their Ireland brawl goes viral

Kansas State Quarterback Avery Johnson’s father and brother issued an apology after video of the two men fighting in Ireland went viral on social media.

The K-State Wildcats lost 24-21 to the Iowa State Cyclones in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin on Saturday, and not long after, Mark and Anthony Johnson were caught fighting on camera.

Video circulating on social media shows the two men on the ground embroiled in a physical altercation as bystanders attempt to separate them. The men finally go their own ways.

It is not clear why the men were fighting.

In a joint statement issued to college sports site On3 on Sunday, Mark and Anthony Johnson said they “sincerely apologize” for their actions following Saturday’s game.

“Senseless bickering escalated into an unnecessary fight,” the statement read. “We have resolved our differences and take full responsibility for our actions. We have apologized to our immediate and extended family, and now extend our apologies to Kansas State University, its alumni, and fans.”

The Johnson men said they regret the incident, “have learned from it, and are committed to ensuring it doesn’t happen again.”

NBC News has reached out to Mark, Anthony and Avery Johnson for comment.

Avery Johnson, of Wichita, is a junior at Kansas State University. He has been playing for the university’s football team for three seasons.

Kansas State’s next game is Saturday against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks.
