When it comes to shooting your shot with a WNBA player, you best come with skills.
“It gets a little heated,” Caitlin Clark told Fieldhouse Files in September 2024 of her competitive late-night hoops sessions with boyfriend Connor McCaffery. “I definitely outshoot him more than he outshoots me, but he tries to think otherwise.”
Yet there’s no one the Indiana Fever point guard would rather bounce ideas off of than McCaffery, who, like her, played ball for University of Iowa and is now an assistant coach at Butler University in Indianapolis.
Well, he didn’t exactly play like Clark, who went No. 1 in the 2024 WNBA draft. Nor did anybody else, for that matter, and McCaffery certainly recognizes his girlfriend’s skills—as an athlete and as a partner.
“You have an incredible ability to inspire and lift up those around you, and I am lucky to learn from you every day,” he wrote on Instagram, wishing her a happy 23rd birthday Jan. 22. “Thank you for always being you…I love you.”
