Best Buy’s weeklong Techtober Sale will compete with October Prime Day

Amazon can never run a sale all by itself. As the retail giant gears up for its annual Prime Big Deal Days event on Oct. 7 and 8, Best Buy is preparing to host a competing “Techtober Sale” from Oct. 6 to 12.

A Best Buy representative tells me via email that the weeklong event will include “some of the hottest deals this fall on tech like laptops, TVs, headphones, video games, electric bikes and more.” New markdowns will be added to the sale every day, they added, and all featured deals will be available online, in the Best Buy mobile app, and in stores.

Amazon has been hosting a two-day fall savings event for members of its Prime program every year since 2022 — and every year since 2022, Best Buy has held its own concurrent sale. (Previously, it came in the form of a 48-Hour Flash Sale.) Best Buy also times a savings event to run alongside Amazon’s big flagship Prime Day sale in July, so this sort of counter-programming is par for the course.

Best Buy isn’t the only retailer giving Amazon a run for its money this month. Walmart is having a “Walmart Deals” event from Oct. 7 to 12, and Target is hosting one of its Circle Week sales from Oct. 5 to 11. Notably, Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days is the only event that locks its deals behind a paid membership.

That said, paying members of the My Best Buy program are the only ones getting access to its best deals in the lead-up to the Techtober Sale. A separate Member Deal Days event is live at Best Buy from Sept. 28 to Oct. 5 as a teaser of sorts.

Mashable Deals

Shoppers who have signed up for a My Best Buy Plus or Total membership can tap into exclusive discounts and score bonus rewards that are redeemable on future purchases. The bonus rewards will arrive via email in about 15 days, so you won’t be able to use them during the Techtober Sale, but they’re good to stockpile for Best Buy’s inevitable Black Friday festivities. (If you’re not a paid My Best Buy member yet, you can get up to $30 in bonus rewards by signing up for the Plus tier at some point through Oct. 5.)

I’ve listed some of the top offers from Best Buy’s Member Deal Days event below, but know this: What happens to them during the Techtober Sale switchover is anyone’s guess. They could get better, worse, go away, or simply become widely available to the general public on Oct. 6.
