Both Adam Azim and Sergey Lipinets initially came in over the weight limit for their super-lightweight contest at Wembley Arena this Saturday, live on Sky Sports.

Azim was just 5oz over when he first stepped on the scales but he was fully confident he’d make weight on a second attempt, even if he had to strip off his trunks.

Lipinets, like Azim, has up to two hours for his next try. He needs to shed one pound to reach 10st.

“It’s all good,” Azim said afterwards. “I’m ready for the fight. I don’t care about eating or nothing.

“You guys will see a new Adam Azim on Saturday.”

In Lipinets, Azim is boxing a former world champion for the first time in his career and the rising star from Slough is determined to prove he belongs at the top level himself.

Elvis Ahorgah, who challenges Callum Simpson for the Commonwealth super-middleweight title, has made an impact in all of his public appearances for their undercard clash.

He strolled purposefully over to the scales, weighed in at 11st 12lbs 5oz and would roar: “I’m serious. I’m not joking.

“I’m always ready. No repeat. No surrender. He has not fought any fighter like me. I am more than a fighter. If he is good, I am more than good.

“I will knock him out.”

Simpson, the reigning British champion as well as the Commonwealth title holder, accepted this fight on just two weeks’ notice and only three weeks after he’d headlined his own show in Sheffield.

But he came in precisely on the 12st limit. Ahorgah exchanged venomous words with him at their face-off.

Afterwards, Simpson said: “He can say what he wants. Tomorrow’s not going to be a war. It’s going to be a demolition job. He’s going to get knocked out early.

“If he carries on with what he’s saying, saying he’s going to break my neck, it’s going to be first round.”
