Residents throughout Orange County are slated to soon pay more for trash services as part of a countywide rate hike stemming from a cost increase at local landfills.

As cities like Santa Ana and Costa Mesa offer legal aid and direct aid for residents impacted by ICE raids, Anaheim leads the way by having both of those funds plus a daily update informing residents about federal deportation efforts throughout OC’s largest town.

Meanwhile, officials in neighboring Fullerton are struggling with a budget crisis as city council members play hot potato over who’s at fault for a projected $13.7 million deficit as expenditures have routinely outpaced revenues.

At the same time, Fullerton officials are slated to host more events on city hall’s lawn in an attempt to avoid costly state requirements to replace grass with turf if the lawn is watered with drinking water.

Santa Ana city officials are moving to quickly strip labor leader Cesar Chavez’ name off monuments and parks after recent allegations he sexually abused girls and raped fellow labor leader Dolores Huerta.

One of Orange County’s most popular municipal skateparks in Costa Mesa is slated to more than double in size after city council members approved the expansion, which will feature a pump track and some quarter pipes.

As pickleball’s popularity increases, eight new courts are slated to come to Westminster’s Tony Lam Park after efforts to build pickleball courts at Westminster Court and Bowling Green park fizzled out.

Stanton officials instituted a $10,000 maximum fine on repeated violations of its fireworks ordinance in an effort to crackdown on fireworks like mortars, festival balls and skyrockets ahead of the United States’ 250th birthday this Fourth of July.

Mission Viejo is slated to host its inaugural Fourth of July parade this year, but the parade is slated to be held a week after the country’s 250th birthday.

City officials are also looking at beefing up pedestrian safety in Mission Viejo through developing a safe school routes plan that could lead to measures like speed bumps and overhauled crosswalks.

Los Alamitos is moving to ban synthetic kratom products after concerns from some residents and one council member that banning the natural form of the plant will deprive people of pain relief.
