“I was going to fitness stores to get protein, grab and go,” she told People in an interview published last April. “And they don’t taste very well, in my opinion, and they’re filled with so much filler and artificial stuff. And I really just wanted something, selfishly, that tasted great, that didn’t have a ton of ingredients in it, that I could [fulfill] my protein intake [with].”
And having kids True, 7, and Tatum, 3—who she shares with ex Tristan Thompson—certainly inspired Khloe to keep up with her health.
“Then when you have kids, you’re like, ‘Okay, I have to stay alive forever, so let me control what I can,’” she explained. “And so much of that is our health, and it is in our kitchen. We can only take control over so much, not everything.”
“But when you do have kids,” Khloe added, “I think it’s a different sort of wake up call that you want to make certain lifestyle changes.”
