Mikayla Nogueira, TikToker, on Fake Accent Claims

Mikayla Nogueira is sounding off on the way she speaks.

The makeup influencer responded to accusations that she puts on her signature Bostonian accent for her content, admitting that the claims aren’t entirely off base.

“Do I actually have an accent? Yes,” she said in a video posted on TikTok March 2. “Do I exaggerate it in my videos? Also yes.”

However, the Freetown, Mass., native made it clear that her non-rhotic delivery is a tribute to her beloved home state, noting that her dad “has a wicked strong accent.”

“I am a Masshole through and through,” she declared. “I will probably die here.”

Later in the post, Mikayla, 27, shared that the way she sounds has long been a point of interest in her life—for better or worse—though it ultimately led her to discover her interest in the beauty industry she now works in.

“The reason I started wearing makeup is because I was being bullied for my voice, which, still bullied about that today,” she explained in the clip. “If I’m being honest, I was constantly being told I looked and sounded like a man, and because of that, no man would ever want me, and that shatters your confidence. The makeup became my safe space, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do with my life.”
