Chief federal judge raises threat of criminal contempt over ICE violations

“The chief federal judge for Minnesota issued a stern warning Thursday to the chief federal prosecutor for the state, as well as to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, warning them that they must comply with court orders or they risk criminal contempt charges,” reports The Associated Press. “His order filed Thursday was just the latest in a series of critical and sometimes scathing statements and rulings by federal judges in Minnesota and elsewhere across the country against how the Trump administration has attempted to conduct mass deportations of immigrants, often citing violations of due process and standards for humane treatment.”

If you get up early enough on March 3, you can see the “Blood Moon,” which is a total lunar eclipse, in Minnesota. Set your alarm for 5 a.m. If you get up in time, you’ll “see a yellow sun rising above blue skies while a red moon sets on a darkened western horizon. … Astronomers predict the next total lunar eclipse will be on New Years Eve 2028, though the next one visible in the Americas won’t happen until June 2029,” according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

There could be some weather surprises this weekend, according to Bring Me The News. “Yesterday, the models were bringing the heaviest snow, generally 1-3 inches of accumulation, to the Interstate 90 corridor in far southern Minnesota. Now, the models have shifted to the north, giving places like the Twin Cities, Willmar, and perhaps even St. Cloud a better chance for some snow.” The latest outlook shows up to nine inches of the white stuff along the I-94 corridor.

If the weather doesn’t keep you inside, Racket’s Freeloader Friday shares 80 things you can do this weekend gratis, including concerts, markets, comedy and more.
