OC’s Biggest Headlines as District Attorney Grapples With Lawsuits

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer continues grappling with harassment lawsuits after a second female prosecutor won a lawsuit against the county, claiming she faced harassment from a senior prosecutor he hired that was ignored.

While she initially claimed Spitzer and some of his executive staff retaliated against her for reporting the alleged harassment, she withdrew that claim.

In turn, Spitzer – through a spokesperson – blamed the case on the former employee and said county lawyers bungled the investigation by publicly releasing the findings.

Santa Ana Police Chief publicly disputed claims from the Department of Homeland Security that federal officials were under attack at an ICE protest last month, with city police denying a request to aid federal agents at the federal building in Downtown.

As Orange County faces a looming senior boom, it’s about to get tougher for older residents in Fullerton and San Clemente to get subsidized rides around town as officials in both cities cut back on the services, citing funding issues.

Westminster’s Tet Parade is slated to kick off at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday, marking the Year of the Horse.

The parade comes as Lent and Ramadan kick off this week – marking a period of religious fasting for Christians and Muslims.

This February also marks the 100th anniversary of Black History Month.

More OC cities are eying Kratom bans as officials in Garden Grove and Dana Point consider cracking down on the substance – a move advocates say should target the synthetic form instead of the natural form that helps give people energy.

After Irvine successfully shuttered an asphalt factory after years of resident complaints about air pollution, a new neighborhood is slated to be built next to the Bowerman Landfill – a facility that air quality officials have issued notices of violations against in recent years.

Irvine city officials are also looking to bolster bicycle transportation through a mobility hub at the train station – an overhaul that could feature bike storage and repair services.

Huntington Beach officials are grappling with replacing the old Ruby’s Diner at the end of the pier, as some council members are raising concerns about the slow process for a replacement restaurant.
