“I was like, ‘I’m Heidi. I’m going to do a Heidi-themed dirndl-type thing in patent leather,'” she explained to host Jimmy Fallon. “But I had to do my own hair and makeup. I didn’t know anyone at the time who does special effects makeup.”
As a result, she acknowledged, “This is boring.”
But she definitely didn’t phone it in last year when she and Tokio Hotel guitarist husband Tom Kaulitz turned up dressed as the titular character from the 1982 classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
“I loved being E.T. so much,” said Klum, though, she admitted, “It was so heavy holding that head on my head because it goes from the back to the front. I thought my neck was going to snap off.”
And heavy is the head that holds the queen of Halloween crown.
“There goes a lot into it because I wanted to be so spectacular that this is not something I can just throw together overnight,” she explained to People of the intensive process. “It takes a long time. It takes a lot of planning.”
And now that she has fans waiting for the big reveal, she’s pulling out all the tricks. “I don’t want to let anyone down,” she added, “so I’m always giving everything.”
