Two young boys accused of causing at least $50,000 in damage at a Florida elementary school library face several charges, including criminal mischief, after their mothers turned them in to authorities.

Deputies with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office were called to the Friendship Elementary School in Deltona after a fire alarm went off, the office said in a news release Sunday.

Body camera footage released by the sheriff’s office showed that the library was completely wrecked. Broken pieces of furniture and books were scattered across the library floor, and a glass door had been shattered.

The sheriff’s office released photos of the suspected vandals and asked for the public’s help in identifying them.

In a post on Monday, the office provided an update and said the boys’ mothers turned them in. The boys are 12 and 13 years old.

“After the video posted, we received lots of emails identifying them (thank you all!), as well as contacts from each of the defendants’ mothers,” the news release states.

Authorities said that the boys allegedly confessed and that the damage totaled at least $50,000.

“They broke into the school during the daytime hours, then returned later in the evening to look at the damage and cause more,” the sheriff’s office said.

They each were charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of trespassing on school ground, criminal mischief and theft.
