David Allen is preparing to rematch Johnny Fisher in May.

Fisher took a contentious split-decision victory over Allen on the Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury 2 undercard in December.

Two of the judges scored in Fisher’s favour, even though Allen dropped him in the fifth round and dominated the second half of the contest.

Allen is now expecting to get an immediate rematch with Fisher in the summer.

“I thought I won the fight but I already had six losses going into the fight. So my stock rose, the rematch looks likely. I’m in a good place,” Allen told Sky Sports.

“I just want to box. When I’m good shape I can give anyone a good fight.

“Expecting that next and I expect to absolutely flatten him as well.”

Allen previously said an immediate rematch was not the right fight for Fisher

Allen is convinced he will be able to take the decision out of the judges’ hands in the rematch and knock Fisher out.

“He isn’t going to improve from the first fight. People say he’s inexperienced, he’s going to improve. What can he improve? He’s not a natural boxer,” the Doncaster man said. “I’ll train a bit harder, lose a bit of weight. I’ll beat him up easily.

“I’ve had one proper fight – with Frazer Clarke, it weren’t even a proper fight – that’s the only fight I’ve had for six years. I feel sorry for him really.”

Fisher had to clamber off the canvas after a heavy knockdown but was still awarded a hotly-contested points victory over Allen in December

Allen is adamant that, even though they went the distance, he still deserved the decision in their first bout.

“I thought [rounds] five through 10 I won,” he said. “There’s been this narrative: ‘Oh he won the 10th round’. He never won the 10th round. And three and four I thought were close. He wasn’t really hitting me. I took my foot off the gas in the 10th, but I thought I’ve won easy.

“I didn’t think he was brilliant. I’m still unsure what he has left or how good I am. I’m not really sure. Because when I was in there after about 30 seconds I thought, oh I can win this.

Fisher hit himself with an uppercut during the fight against Allen

“I knew straightaway [I’d win]. It was a hard fight but it was an easy night really, if that makes sense. I wasn’t quite conditioned enough to take advantage of when I put him down.

“But realistically it was an easy night. I wasn’t hurt. It was what it was. It was quite a comfortable night really. I just didn’t have the gears to go through to really seal the deal when I had him over.

“I was quite emotional because I thought finally, finally I’ve done it… But I didn’t get it.

“It’s over and done with, move on.”

Bosh

Johnny Nelson was shocked after finding out Fisher had beaten Allen

He does, though, believe he saved his career with that performance against Fisher.

“It gave me some confidence again. I was happy that I’ve got something left,” he said.

“I quite enjoy boxing, sometimes. So it’s nice I can carry on now.”
