All roads lead to the West Midlands on Monday as Wolverhampton opens its doors, with an eight-race card in store…

6.30 Wolverhampton – Last time out winners Bobby Bennu and Royal Zabeel clash

The Roger Varian-trained Bobby Bennu found his way to the winners’ enclosure last time out at Lingfield off a mark of 94. He’s up 3lb for that victory with regular rider Jack Mitchell onboard for the Middleham Park team.

It only took Royal Zabeel two starts to win having ran creditably on debut for the Mick Appleby yard. That race looked deep and is up 6lb for that victory and wouldn’t be surprised if he found more improvement for the Horse Watchers.

Charlie Johnston saddles new recruit Society Man having been running in France for Fabrice Chappet. He has a record of 3-11 and would be dangerous to discount for interesting connections.

5.30 Wolverhampton – Enola Grey, Jazzy Angel and Noisy Music feature

Enola Grey had 13 starts last year before getting his head in front under regular ride Ethan Jones. Warren Fentiman takes a useful 7lb to negate the 3lb rise and will surely run his ever-consistent best.

The temperamental Jazzy Angel ran creditably last time out at Kempton given she unshipped Laura Pearson on the way to the start. Regular rider Kaiya Fraser gets the leg up and should get a good tune out of Harry Eustace’s filly.

Noisy Music has been running well in recent starts including when beating some rivals that re-oppose today back in September. Mick Appleby’s charge has been generously dropped a 1lb for her three-and-a-half length defeat.

6.00 Wolverhampton – Crisford three-year-olds debut in competitive fillies’ maiden

Stable jockey Jack Mitchell takes the ride on Song Of Dubai which would suggest she would be the first string for Simon and Ed Crisford. The dam was pretty good with a rating of 97 and could be interesting given connections have kept the first foal from her.

Stable companion Ariri lines up for KHK Racing which always is to note. She is related to Tyger Bay who is an eleven-time winner albeit at a lower level. Josephine Gordon rides for the Crisford team. Orangeandlemons has been second twice and ran creditably on both starts. She may have just bumped into one last time and one would be willing to think her experience will pay for plenty in this.
