Nick Kyrgios: Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek’s doping casess are ‘ disgusting for tennis’ | Tennis News

Nick Kyrgios has labelled doping-related charges against Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek as “disgusting” for tennis.

Men’s world No 1 Sinner tested positive twice for an anabolic steroid in March, but avoided a ban because the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) determined he was not to blame.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed that decision and Sinner still faces a potential suspension.

Swiatek, now the women’s world No 2, accepted a one-month suspension in November after testing positive for the banned substance trimetazidine.

The Pole was ranked world No 1 when she provided a sample containing the angina medication trimetazidine in an out-of-competition test on August 12.

Iga Swiatek has admitted she feared losing supporters after her positive doping case was revealed earlier this year.

She says she is not expecting a WADA appeal.

“Two world No 1s both getting done for doping is disgusting for our sport. It’s a horrible look,” Kyrgios said.

“Tennis integrity right now, and everyone knows it but no one wants to speak about it, it’s awful.”

Like Sinner, Swiatek’s brief provisional ban was only made public once the outcome of the case had been determined, with the 23-year-old attributing her absence from the three tournaments to personal matters and a change of coach.

Jannik Sinner says dealing with anti-doping allegations has been difficult

That led to more accusations of a two-tier system, with the star names given preferential treatment, something that is strongly denied by the ITIA and tennis authorities.

Sky Sports has contacted the International Tennis Integrity Agency, who chose not to comment.
